Older Preschoolers

Older Preschoolers

Unique and age-appropriate learning experiences are the framework of Educational Playcare's pre-kindergarten Canaries program, including exposure to:

1. Science
2. Math
3. Arts
4. Language
5. Other Subjects

Some of the skills that children are developing in our older preschooler’s program include:
1. Participating in teacher-led group activities
2. Managing transitions
3. Following rules and routines
4. Counting
5. Sorting
6. Expressing themselves through art and movement
7. Identifying some printed letters and words

One of the main goals of our Canary programme is to help children develop literacy skills in preparation for kindergarten. To accomplish this, we include print and literacy experiences into every learning centre in our classrooms. In addition, each Canary room has a dedicated reading centre where children may play games with letters and letter sounds, as well as write letters with sensory materials such as play dough or sand. Our older preschoolers have constant access to paper and various writing implements to practise pencil grasp and fine motor coordination.

We believe that children learn best through play, so we combine activities such as humorous stories with recurring letter sounds and games that feature letter recognition to teach them these key abilities. Children learn and retain more knowledge when they are having fun, are interested in the activity, and are employing several senses. As a result, dittos and worksheets are not used in our Canary programme because they have been found to be less engaging and interesting for youngsters.

Additionally, our preschool families have the option of enrolling their kid in EP read with Me, our literacy programme. The goal of the curriculum is to encourage emergent reading and writing comprehension. We provide a variety of engaging and interesting exercises that assist children with recognising letters, comprehending sounds and words, and developing best practises to help them form early writing habits. Each session is taught in a small group setting by a teacher, with the goal of developing the emerging literacy skills that children are gaining as part of our EPiC preschool curriculum.

Communication with our Parents

The importance of communication between parents and teachers cannot be overstated. Families receive an emailed daily report detailing the activities, projects, and discussions for the day. Outside of each classroom, there are also informational bulletin boards with the curriculum, calendar, meals, notifications, and other vital information.
